1.2.0: the Lancer action hand and Perfect Draw!

What's new

Lancer: your actions as a hand of cards (beta)

Lancer turns are full of choices: two quick actions or one full action, a standard move, Overcharge, reactions, and every weapon and system on your mech. Blob's Card Engine now lays them out as a hand of cards at the bottom of the screen during a Lancer combat.

  • Everything you can do this turn, at a glance: the standard actions, each equipped weapon, and your systems' actions. Cards you can't afford right now are greyed out, and hovering tells you why.
  • One click, Lancer's own roll: playing a card opens the Lancer system's attack or activation window. Your action budget is only spent if the roll goes through, so cancelling costs nothing, and Undo gives back a misclick.
  • The rules are on the cards: no taking the same action twice in a turn, protocols only at the start, Superheavy weapons only in a Barrage, Loading weapons that need a Stabilize, Limited uses counted down.
  • The whole turn: Overcharge (with its heat), your Core Power, and a reaction row for Brace, Overwatch and your systems' reactions, live on everyone else's turn. Prepare holds an action until its trigger; Full Tech takes two tech options.
  • Out of the cockpit: a dismounted pilot gets their own hand (Fight, Jockey, Reload, their gear), spending from the same pool as their mech.
  • For the GM too: select an NPC during a combat and its features become its hand.

It works with the Lancer system's own action tracker, so the bar at the top of the screen and the hand at the bottom always agree.

Perfect Draw!, free

Someone in our community plays Perfect Draw!, a tabletop RPG where the card games are the fights, and asked for a few things. They're all in, and there's a free Perfect Draw! pack to go with them.

  • Card game combat on the table: your deck and staples against the Judge's opponent. Life and opening hands come from the battle's significance, Advantage and Tension sit on your seat, and attacks work out the clash for you: the stronger card wins, and equal strength rolls 2d6 + Tension (spend Advantage to raise it).
  • Draw the Perfect Card: spend the Advantage and the card editor opens right at the table. Make your card, it lands in your hand, and you can save it to your deck for next time.
  • The moves and the Judge: Risk Everything to Win, Take Control of the Game, Counter, Protect Against a Response; the Judge rolls their Plan to Win, Power and Simple Card Moves and counts down response moves. The generic staples do their own work, and the Starborn Bears are ready to fight.
  • Character and opponent sheets: a Perfect Draw! character sheet (stats, baggage, Combat Tension, the general moves, your deck and staples) and an opponent sheet for the Judge (gimmick, Lash Out, Plan to Win and Power cards). Both keep their decks in the Decks area, edited in the deck builder.
  • Any table: player v player duels, players against the Judge's opponent, up to five seats.

Perfect Draw! is by Double Summon Games (Nora Jean Haynes, Iris Cassandra Saintclaire). The pack's rules come from their Creative Commons rules document. Get the full game on their itch.io page.

For every game: markers and adding cards

  • Markers on cards: a game can have markers like Strengthened or Resilience 2. Right-click a card you control to set them, even under strict rules, and they show as badges with hover text.
  • Add a card mid-game: put any card from the game's library into a running match, or make a brand-new one in the card editor. The GM always can; each game decides what players can do.
  • Players adding cards to a game: if a game takes contributions, players get Add a card (or Suggest a card) in the builder.
  • Fonts for your card designs: the Card Designer now has a font setting.

Fixed

  • The hand bar at the bottom of the screen has a × to close it for a match.
  • "At the start of your turn" rules now run in games where turns simply pass around the table.
  • A rule that can't be worked out refuses the move with a message instead of leaving the table waiting.

How to update

Download the new zip from your itch.io library and replace the blobs-card-engine folder in Data/modules, then restart Foundry. Your games, decks and matches are kept.
