Playing at the table
Cards
- Click a card to see what you can do with it. Double-click plays it the obvious way.
- Drag cards between zones. Under rules, the zones you may drop on light up.
- Hold Alt (Option), Ctrl or Cmd and hover a card to see it up close, with its abilities.
- Buttons along the top run the game's actions (Draw, Deal, Bet…). Greyed-out ones say why when you hover them.
Turns, choices and undo
- The bar at the top says whose turn it is. When the game asks you to choose (a player, a card, a number), a panel appears at the top of the table.
- Undo takes back your last move (outside Strict, unless the game allows it). The GM can always undo.
- The Log tab lists everything that happened.
Markers
Some games put markers on cards: Strengthened, Resilience 2. Right-click a card you control (the GM: any card) to turn one on or off, or to count one up and down. They show as badges on the card; hover a badge, or hold Alt over the card, for what it does, and click it to take it off. Add your own marker… in the right-click menu names one on the spot (Cursed). Markers work under every rules level, like flipping a card.
Adding a card mid-game
The Add a card button (top of the table) puts a card into a running game: one from the game's library (tokens too), or a new card made in the card editor. Pick where it goes: your hand, your field, a shared zone. The GM can always; the game decides whether players can add tokens or make cards too. A card you make can also be saved to your deck for next time.
Hidden cards
Each player's hand and the deck are kept out of sight: the table never shows another player's cards, and only the GM's client can change hidden cards. Every move a player makes is checked by the GM's client, so nobody can play cards they don't have, change another player's chips or gold, or act for another seat, even from the browser console.
Play with people you trust
Foundry sends every player's browser all of a world's data, whatever its permissions, so a player who opens the browser console can read hidden cards (the deck order, other hands). That's true of Foundry's own card decks too. They can look, but they can't change anything.
Your hand without the table
While the table is closed, your hand waits in a bar at the bottom of the screen. Move the mouse there to raise it, click a card to play it, or open the table. The × closes it for that match (opening the table brings it back), and the Hand bar setting shows it always, only on your turn, or never.
Decks on the map
On the table, the GM's map-pin button on a shared pile puts it on the scene: a loot chest, a fortune teller's deck. Players double-click the pin to draw a card.
The GM
The GM can play any seat (the act as menu), see hidden cards, and fix a stuck game. Every move is checked on the GM's client, so the GM needs to be connected for play.
The Play mat button (top of the table, GM only) changes the colour or puts a picture under the cards for this match only. Use the game's puts the game's own mat back.
Keyboard
- Tab moves between zones; the arrow keys move between cards in a zone.
- Enter opens a card's menu; Space plays it the obvious way.
- Shift + D draws, Shift + E ends your turn (change them in Configure Controls).
- Ctrl / Cmd + Z undoes.
- ? shows every shortcut.
